Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Identify and apply the latest screening recommendations for osteoporosis, including the use of dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and fracture risk assessment tools like FRAX, to determine appropriate screening intervals and identify candidates for vertebral imaging
- Differentiate between current pharmacologic treatments for osteoporosis, such as bisphosphonates, denosumab, parathyroid hormone analogs, and romosozumab, understanding their mechanisms of action, treatment durations, and strategies for transitioning between therapies to maintain bone density and reduce fracture risk
- Incorporate evidence-based non-pharmacologic interventions, including weight-bearing and resistance exercises, fall prevention measures, and lifestyle modifications, into individualized osteoporosis management plans to enhance bone health and minimize fracture risk
